Yasuzo works as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool. Leading a lonely and monotonic life, no one is aware of what lurks beneath his cool surface. POOLSIDEMAN, winner of the “Japanese Cinema Splash Award” at the 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival, creates a tense atmosphere with long takes and monochrome images while developing a psychogram of its inscrutable protagonist.

Director’s Bio
Hirobumi WATANABE was born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1982. After graduating from the Japan Institute of the Moving Image, he founded his own production company with his brother, film composer Yuji. Since directing his first feature film, AND THE MUD SHIP SAILS AWAY, he is a regular at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
