In 1936, Sada ABE strangles her lover after a brief and intense affair, cuts off his genitals and carries them as a souvenir until she is arrested. A year before Nagisa OSHIMA’s famous adaptation of this case, IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES, TANAKA delivers this erotic ecstasy in gaudy reds about two people isolating and losing themselves in their love for each other.
