Nippon Animation
Celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2017, animated movies still rank among the most important representatives of Japanese cinema. For the fifth time, the NIPPON ANIMATION section provides an overview of contemporary anime. IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD tells a story about the events of the Second World War in Japan through the eyes of a young woman, while A SILENT VOICE deals with topics such as school bullying. As part of the NIPPON KIDS section, the stop motion film CHIERI AND CHERRY is presented with German live voice over, as is the second kids film RUDOLF THE BLACK CAT. Innovative independent productions and the works of the youngest generation of animation artists can be seen in two short film programs, POETIC LANDSCAPES – RECENT GEMS IN JAPANESE INDIE ANIMATION and TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS: ANIMATION.
